Merchandise

Merchandise is created to attract people who are interested in the film. The merchandise can range from anything like action figures, watches, jewellery boxes, Sound tracks and Mcdonalds toys.
They can be released before or after the film has been released, they release them before to get the public to be excited for when the film actually comes out. Merchandise is also a good way for the film to gain more money, They can even get an idea of how many people would be interested in the film if merchandise is released before hand.
The target audience for the film can be shown though the merchandise, for example if they use Jewellery the film could be aimed at females, If they use mcdonalds toys it is obvious that the film is suitable for a young audience.

Disaster films: All of the ten films listed above come under the Disaster film Genre. They all involve a world threatening disaster. In each of the films at least one person has to sacrifice themselves,or something close to them in order to save the rest of the surviving group and the rest of the world.

Armageddon is set in space.A team of astronaughts have to go into space to prevent a meteor from hitting the world, killing everyone.
2012 involves the whole world being affected by natural disasters.
The core, a team of scientists have to travel to the centre of the earth to get the core to start spinning again as it has stopped and is causing disasters across the planet.

In all of those films the involve death and man-made or natural disasters this is one code and convention.

The lost boys micro essay

In the Lost boys scene i am analyzing mise-en-scene and sound.

The start of the scene starts with Sam running outside after his dog, wearing a light blue shirt which is tucked into his darker blue jeans, his hair also neatly done. This shows he takes time on his appearance and probably is a hard working person. Two Friends are shouting his name, his brother Michael runs over to him in a mid-shot wearing a dark jumper and dark jeans, he is casually dressed, like any normal teenager.

The scene is set in Sam an Michaels house, which has dull lighting creating the atmosphere for what is about to happen.
An  eerie Music gently picks up during this part of the scene, the music is non-diegetic. You can tell this because the music wouldn’t have usually be present in this scene, as the music builds up there is a point of view shot of the vampires flying towards Sam, Michael and the house. This sound picks up the pace for the audience and creates tension and anticipation for what will happen next. A close up of the female, Starr, shows the terror on her face as she screams ‘’Michael they’re coming’’.
Michael, Sam and the dog each run into the house. The house is dark with little light and a stuffed animal head on the wall, showing the owner of the house likes strange things.
A series of quick cuts show how each member acts as they try to block the house from the oncoming vampires .
As the vampires enter, there are a series of quick cuts create anxiety for the audience.
Two boys run into a bedroom in a mid-two shot where they find one of the many vampires. The boys, Both wearing a military outfit and vampire hunting objects, including garlic around their neck shows they  want to appear they are stronger and braver than they actually are. The vampire is wearing a long leather jacket, a white top, and dirtied white jeans showing he has been in other fights and does not care about his appearance. There is a close up on the vampires face, showing pure anger. Which leaves the audience anticipating what will happen next.
The boys lead him into a bathroom, where the bath is filled with garlic and holy water, showing the vampires were expected. The boys throw the holy water in the vampires face.
There is a close up of the vampire as he screams. Music slowly builds up as the vampire is pushed into the bath. There is a close up of him burning and an eerie smoke emitting from his body.
The vampire jolts up from the water, disfigured, and then falls into the water scraping his long dirty fingernails down the bath, reassuring the audience that the boys will be un harmed by this vampire.

Hidden Anger 200 word pitch

Hidden Anger will appeal to females aged around 15-25 due to The lead male actor and thriller Genre as there is a Crime investigation.
The film would be set in England, mainly in the countryside of Hastings, Andy and Amanda’s house being on the sea front and Andy’s mothers  house set in a woodland area in or just outside Hastings.
I have chosen Aaron Johnson to play Andy as he is a young current actor and has played deceiving parts, such a William in Chatroom  and Bonnie wright to play Amanda as she is pretty, young and has a gentle nature in Harry Potter. The main Police officer will be played by David Arquette as he is experience in playing police officers from the ‘Scream’ franchise
My film Hidden Anger  is similar to ‘Seven’ due to its thriller Genre and the ‘’Crime investigation’’ theme. Also Seven was released in  mainstream cinemas which is where I would like Hidden Anger to be Released.

Hidden Anger.

Narrative

Andy and Amanda are recently engaged, they live happily in their own house. Amanda is working as a journalist for the local new paper meaning that she has to be away from Andy for days.
Amanda is informed that she has  to go away for two weeks to write up and research different countries cultures for the news paper.

Andy is fed up of Amanda constantly having to go away, it drives him crazy. After a series of arguments previously, This last argument proves to be tragic. Andy looses control  and attacks Amanda, hitting her on the head knocking her out, But Andy continues to hit her in rage.
Andy runs out of the house, and goes into hiding is his mothers old house, which is vacant.
2 weeks  later curious family, go to Andy and Amanda’s house as they hadn’t heard from either of them for days. They discover Andy is not there, and Amanda lying dead on the floor.
The police are called in, as a search for Andy is carried out.
The death of Amanda sends Andy on a frenzied killing spree. Killing only vulnerable females. The police are oblivious to who is committing the murders.
Months pass by and Andy still has not been found when the police decide to go to Andy's mothers old house to search there.
One police officer is sent to the house. He finds Andy hiding in the wardrobe.
Andy is then taken into the police station, where he confesses everything including that he is the man behind the mysterious murders.
The police also discover that Andy is also behind the disappearance  and killing of his mother . They discover her body, buried in his mothers back garden. They also figure out that Andy becomes a very angry man, fuelling each of the murders he has committed.
Amanda’s Family can not believe that Andy was capable of such crimes, but are happy when they discover that Andy is to be sent to prison for life in a high security prison.
The film ends on Andy being locked up in a prison cell with two other men.

Logline:
A young couple live happily, but as one is killed and other occur the police have to race to find the culprit.

Scream 4

From the moment i heard that scream 4 was to be created i have eagerly anticipated its release.
sure enough when i watched it,i was no dissapointed.

Scream 4 features characters from the previous scream films, including the much loved Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell)
She returns to he hometown of Woodsboro,on the anniversary of the first  ''Ghost face'' attack, To promote her book and visit her family especially her niece Jill.
Ghost face is determined to cut down everyone close the Sidney's heart so it becomes a race for her to track down Ghost face before its too late.
An unexpected end to the film leaves the viewer relieved.

During the film i tried guessing who the killer was, all of my attempts were wrong leaving me happy as it was not another typical horror.I enjoyed this film and it definitely did not spoil its previous ones, it fully lived up to my expectations and left no question unanswered

ChatRoom review

Chatroom has an interesting plot of the  manipulation of four vulnerable Teens.
The film conveys how teens could see the chatroom that they have joined and shows this by featuring them in a Run down hotel full of doors Representing each different internet chatroom..
One room,in particular called ''Chelsea teens!'' was created by one disturbed teen called William (Aaron Johnson)  He uses this room to lure four other people into his manipulative mind.
At first William seems a caring character so each member shares their stories on why they hate their life,William see's that they listen to his advise and uses this to his advantage to maniuplate them for his own sick and twisted games.

This film was a nice surprise, its different to other films i have seen and i fully enjoyed it although i was intruiged as to Why William was so messed up in the head and was hoping that part of the film would focus on his past, unfortunately it didn't but the film was still enjoyable.
For fans of the man who directed it Hideo Nakata,it may be a disappointment to them as it features no element of horror unlike his previous film The ring.

I thought the casting of The lead character of william was slightly decieving as the actor who played him (Aaron Johnson)  was a previous heartthrob in the film 'Angus thongs and perfect snogging, and a wannabe Hero in Kick ass.

I found the transformation from innocent to Phsyco slightly decieving although Aaron johnson has pulled it off.

Overall, the film was interesting and a good way of portraying every parents nightmare of their child being caught up in a potentially harmful chatroom.

The Lost boys: Exhibition

Reviews:

Sutherland Plays a Terrific Villainous Vampire

  1. Sutherland's performance is the best in the film and one of the best from an actor playing a vampire villain in this genre. In every scene he has, he is always in character and is enjoying every second of it. Jason Patric, who plays Michael, is also quite good at portraying the requisite angst to make his character work.

Audiences may enjoy The Lost Boys on first viewing, but it will not stand up well on repeat. The film has an excellent premise, decent acting, and an enthusiastic style, but it has neither narrative focus nor a satisfying ending.

  1. 2. Few blockbusters can boast the easy charms of this delightful popcorn flick, which featured "the two Coreys" (Haim and Feldman) at the height of their popularity and set brooding Jason Patric up for endless "Why isn't he a bigger star?" feature stories. Although no fewer than five hands were involved in the screenplay, the film that emerges is a solidly cohesive effort that takes both its teen angst and its blood-n-fangs seriously even as it smirks slightly at its own cheekiness. From the deadpan antics of Grampa (Barnard Hughes) and the quirky likability of his flaky daughter, Lucy (Woody Allen favorite Dianne Wiest), to the classic "meet cute" of Star (Jamie Gertz) and Michael (Jason Patric), The Lost Boys uses standard-issue screenwriting devices to set up its vampires-in-seedy-suburbia scenario. It succeeds, however, thanks to its imaginative vampire mythos and its easy mixture of laughs and thrills. Kiefer Sutherland is actually quite menacing as the leader of the Rebel Without a Cause-style undead, while the Coreys and co-star Jamison Newlander have great fun spouting slang witticism and driving stakes through the hearts of the bloodsucking legions. The location shots of coastal Northern California punks cavorting on the boardwalk set an edgy pop-culture tone that's carried through in the music (by INXS, Echo and the Bunnymen, and composer Thomas Newman, among others) and especially in the shots of the so-hip-it-hurts vampire hangout. The real treat for horror fans, though, is the extended set piece of the climax, which includes so many inventive deaths (and killer plot twists) that it renders earlier vampire movies tame. Fans of more methodical psychological horror -- and older audiences in general -- probably won't find The Lost Boys too scintillating, but for youngsters, horror fans, and '80s survivors, it's a fun little flick that has held up remarkably well. ~ Brian J. Dillard, Rovi

I Dissagree with the first review as i feel the ending was unexpected and enjoyable, and i have watched this film many times and it still continues to give me that feeling of the first time watching it.
In the second Review,i do agree that many of the older audiences wont enjoy the film as much,as it is based on a teen being tricked into becoming a vampire and his struggles to break the ''curse''.

The Lost boys: Distribution

this movie poster was used to advertise the film
The poster is black white and red, this indicates the horror genre as the red being blood.
The main person is infront of the other cast members and is wearing glasses showing he wants to be ''cooler'' than everyone else and wants to stand out.
Their hairstyles and clothes indicate that the film is not set in current times as they are in leather jackets and the women,in a black sloped dress.
The target audience for this is aimed at people for teens +, as it is clear that it is a horror, due to the red, white and black, and also has a caption at the top stating ''Sleep All Day,Party All Night.Never Grow Old.Never Die. It's Fun To be A Vampire'' Vampries are associated with horrors, blood and killings, therefore it would not be suitable for a child the age of 10.

Merchandise:

Lost Boys Girls T-Only Noodles Michael JrLost Boys t-shirt - JR style ladies jr
The merchandise used to Promote The lost boys include the lead characters figurines a Sound track and a variety of different ''lost boys'' styled t-shirts. These interest people as some may be into collectibles, music or might really like the design of one of the T-shirts, encouraging to buy the items, and wanting to watch the film itself.
